Anyone else sick of Bad Girls?

I spent most of the afternoon, and part of the evening, watching an America’s Next Top Model marathon.  Hey, don’t judge me! The only reason I occasionally put up with crazy Tyra, is to see the fabulosity that is Miss Jay, and my gay-crush Mr. Jay.  Nigel’s pretty hot too, but I digress.

In between the photo shoots, runways and fashion, were some seriously disturbing commercials for Oxygen’s show Bad Girls Club.  I’ve never been able to stomach an entire episode of the show myself, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what the show’s about.  Seven self-proclaimed “Bad Girls” live together in a house and drink too much, which of course, leads to a string of never-ending girl fights.  Let me share a little bit of the insanity with you.

Pretty crazy huh? Like I said, I don’t watch the show but I hear comments from a lot of women and girls who do.  It absolutely amazes me how excited some women (and of course guys) get watching these bad girls duke it out.  I honestly have no idea what they were fighting about, but is there really anything that serious to make women act that way?

Of course it upsets me to see women fight like that, but I think what upsets me even more is the way people’s eyes light up watching it.  What have we become as women when we cheer on this totally unacceptable behavior?  What makes it even worse is that the badder the girl, the more popular she becomes.

I am begging you, whether you’re male or female, please stop encouraging this insanity.  It’s gone from the Bad Girls Club to playgrounds.  Just recently in Lowell, MA fights involving girls as young as 15, were posted on YouTube where I’m sure there were thousands and thousands of views.  Is this what we want to see from our sisters, daughters, friends, and even mothers?  Not me!

For those of you who think this is harmless entertainment, give me a break!  There are lots of impressionable young girls who would love to get their 15 minutes of YouTube fame.  They see these reality show stars getting interviews, thousands of dollars for club appearances, and instant fame.  Unfortunately, they don’t see that this fame is fleeting and before you know it, the interviews, appearances and fame will be gone.

I am proud to say that I have never in my life been in a fight, and I’m proud of it.  What I’m even more proud of is that I’ve never cheered on a fight between two girls, or anyone for that matter.

The Bad Girls Club is not the sole target of my anger, but it was staring me in the face tonight and I just couldn’t take it anymore.  Stop encouraging bad behavior.  It’s not cute, it’s not sexy, and it’s definitely not harmless.

How do YOU feel about all these girl fights on television?  Does it bother you, and if not, why not?  I would love to get your opinion.  Leave a comment!

Just my humble opinion…Pebbles
