I kinda miss being a loser!

I know it sounds like a crazy thing to say, but I do kinda miss being a loser!  I miss the hope I used to feel.  I miss being the underdog and having to fight.  And I miss the days when my hat simply had a B on it, and not World Champion.  What am I talking about?  My Boston Red Sox.

October 27, 2004 was a day that no Red Sox fan will ever forget.  It was the day that the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years.  Don’t get me wrong, I was like any other Sox fan that night.  I was hysterical with happiness and sat on the floor of a friend’s house and cried when they finally broke the curse.  It was a moment I will never forget.  But I have to say, I do miss the days and years that led up to that unforgettable moment.

Before you say I’m being ridiculous, think about it.  Think about the fever that those Red Sox/Yankees series would bring to the city.  Think about the psycho you would turn into if you were lucky enough to get tickets to a game.  And  think about the night they left Pedro in too long and we blew another chance to go to the World Series.  I don’t think any break-up cut as deep as that night did at that time.

It’s really sad to say, but I just don’t have that feeling anymore.  Ever since we won in 2004, little by little, my obsessive passion for the Sox has dissipated.  I no longer watch every single game.  I no longer know the batting averages of every player on the team.  Hell, I don’t even KNOW every player on the team.

I’m not saying I want to go on another 86-year losing streak, but I would like to get that passion back.  I want to scream Yankees Suck and feel a little hatred again.  I want my day to not be complete unless I’ve seen or heard at least a few innings of a game. And I want the first sign of Spring to once again be the day the trucks pack up and leave Fenway Park for Spring Training.

I’m not saying I want us to be cursed again, and sure, I want to win another World Series.  But I also want to get back that fire I felt watching my beloved Red Sox, even if they were losing.  So yes, I kinda miss being a loser.  And the way that they’ve been playing lately, I might get that feeling back sooner than I think!

Just my humble opinion…Pebbles

What about you?  Have you lost your passion for the Red Sox?  Do you miss the days when we were losers?  Or is it just me?  Please leave me a comment, I would love to hear what you have to say!

Should we forgive Tiger Woods?

YouTube Preview Image

Tiger Woods spoke for the first time on Friday and there have been lots of different reactions to his speech, so I figured I would share mine.   The speech was given with the understanding that there would only be a select group of Tiger’s friends, family, and colleagues present.  There was a single camera and only a few members of the media were allowed in the room.

I listened to press conference, so my initial reactions didn’t have anything to do with how he looked, but were based solely on his words.  Just listening,  I found him to sound like a truly defeated man who is sincerely sorry for what he did and was going to do his best to make amends to his wife, family, sponsors and fans.

I know that a lot of people don’t care what he had to say and no matter what he said, weren’t going to believe him, but I think he did what he had to do.   This was done because he needs to be sure his career is in tact when he is finished with therapy and whatever else he’s going to do to get his personal life back in order.  He needs to gain back the trust and respect of his sponsors, fans and the public.  It’s not going to be easy, but I do think that this was a step in the right direction.

I am one of the people who he talked about being a disappointment to.  I have been a huge Tiger fan for years, and I was SO upset when I heard about his “indiscretions.”  It was devastating for me to hear that he was not the person I thought he was.  After thinking about it, I realized that that is MY problem, not Tiger’s.  I was the one who put him on a pedestal.  I believed he was different from other athletes.  And I looked at him as a role model for adults and children alike.   It has really made me re-evaluate my thoughts on celebrities.  I don’t think there’s anything wrong with admiring them for their good qualities, but I think I need to do a better job at keeping in mind that they are human just like the rest of us and that they can and will make mistakes.

Although I’m finding that a lot of people don’t agree with me, I think that if we’re fans, we owe it to Tiger to allow him to make it up to us.   He screwed up…and his screw-up was of epic proportions!  He said that his wife told him that his apology to her was not going to come through words, but by his actions.  If she is willing to allow him to try to make it up to him, who are we to say no?

Back to Tiger’s speech, I’m not going to analyze it word for word, or examine his body language, but there were a couple of moments that stood out to me.  One was when he talked about the paparazzi following his wife and children.  It was the only time in the speech that I found him really expressing some strong emotion.  And I totally agree with him.  His children and wife should not be stalked to the point where they feel threatened.  When he spoke about that, it almost felt like he wanted to go off script for a moment and tell people what he really thought!  The other moment that stood out to me was when he talked about feeling entitled.  For me, that was one of the most honest moments of the speech.  Here’s the exact quote, “I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn’t apply. I never thought about who I was hurting. Instead, I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries that a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn’t have to go far to find them.” I think that this is what happens to A LOT of celebrities, athletes and otherwise, and it was actually nice to hear someone admit it!

I’m sure that another celebrity scandal is going to come along at some point, and we’ll forget all about Tiger and his “indiscretions.”   He will make a triumphant return to golf, the public will forgive him, and the sponsors will be all over him  again.

So what did YOU think about Tiger’s speech?  Did you even watch it?  Do you think it was sincere, and did he say what you wanted him to?

I would love to hear from you, so please leave me a comment.  None of your personal information will be displayed…only your name!  Thank so much for reading!

Makes me wanna Google!

Yesterday I tweeted “Too much game between the commercials.”  I only watch the Super Bowl when my team (the Patriots) are playing.  Since they weren’t I had no intention of even watching the game.  I did cave and turned it on to watch the commercials.  I missed a lot of them because I was too busy doing…well, I wasn’t really doing anything, I just wasn’t paying attention.  Two commercials were my favorites.

I am a woman, and most of us are saps by nature, so Google sure knew what they were doing when they decided to air Parisian Love for their Super Bowl ad.  I was on Twitter while watching the game, and there was an instant overwhelmingly positive response, especially from women.  If you missed it, here it is.

Google actually has been very opposed to TV advertising, so a lot of people were surprised to hear that they were running an ad.  The commercial has actually been on YouTube since November.  Google CEO Eric Schmidt released this statement:

If you watched the Super Bowl this evening you’ll have seen a video from Google called “Parisian Love”. In fact you might have watched it before, because it’s been on YouTube for over three months. We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search. Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.

If you like it too, we hope you’ll watch the others. Enjoy.

The other ad that I didn’t see live, but heard a lot about and looked up online was a Doritos ad.  I won’t tell you what happens in case you haven’t seen it, but here’s the commercial called House Rules.

Hilarious!!!

So which ads were YOUR favorite?  I would love to hear from you.  Leave a comment, and thanks so much for reading!

What to watch BESIDES the Super Bowl

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I will not be watching the Super Bowl tomorrow.  My beloved Patriots aren’t in it so I don’t care who wins, and the thought of seeing the cameras go back and forth between Kendra Wilkinson and Kim Kardashian so we can all decide if Reggie Bush or Hank Baskett has the hottest woman is enough to make me seek alternative TV for the night.

For those of you who will be looking for something else to watch at 6pm,  I already checked out what’s on, and there’s a little something for everyone.  Here are some of your options.

Law and Order: SVU marathon on USA.  My favorite in the L & O franchise.  Better get your fill of Stabler now.  I hear Chris Meloni is calling it quits after he films one more season.  Can’t imagine the show without him!

Law and Order marathon on TNT

Teen Mom marathon on MTV.  The stars of 16 and Pregnant are back after giving birth.  Find out what happened to them during the first year after giving birth.

Run’s House marathon on MTV 2.

Puppy Bowl VI on Animal Planet.  I’m not a dog person, but I know plenty of people who are.  If you prefer a night with the dogs over people, this is the show for you!

I Love Lucy marathon on the Hallmark Channel.  If you feel like going old school, and need some laughs, check out everyone’s favorite redhead.

Supernanny marathon on the Style network.

Anything of Lifetime Television for Women or Lifetime Movie Network.  Come on, you know you’ve been sucked in by some of their awfully delicious or deliciously awful movies.  There are plenty to choose from tomorrow night!

Well, those are my picks!  If you have any suggestions or want to talk me into watching the Super Bowl, be sure to leave me a comment!
