I love your blog Pebz! Thank you for posting the Sean Hayes interview! I think you are right on the money with what you said. Coming out is something that should be done in one's own time, not at the demand and ransom of some over-the-top, bad-stereotype of what a gay man is all about.

The only person you truly owe anything to is yourself. The whole notion of having a big, splashy "Coming Out" is in my opinion cliche', tacky and actually makes it seem as though you have something you're trying to prove. I was one of the very fortunate people who's family and friends were 110% supportive and accepting when I revealed my sexuality. Not everyone is that lucky however. While I agree with Anastasia's notion that we should be able to live in a world where one's sexuality doesn't matter and everyone should be free to be who they are no exceptions, sadly that is not the reality we live in, and there is still a lot of hatred and stigma against the gay community. And let it be known that all gay people DO NOT have a duty to one another! Coming out is a deeply personal decision that should be made only because you as an individual feel it is right for you. Not all people's circumstances are the same and allow them to do so. In some cases, it may actually be worse, bringing them physical or emotional harm from those surrounding them. I think especially in the case of celebrities, whose lives are under a gigantic microscope and made to be the subject of water cooler gossip, being able to come out of the closet is a very brave decision. However, it should not be expected of them. Just like straight people, there are some gays that are just very private people and keep their personal lives to themselves, while others choose to post their every move on Facebook or Twitter. Regardless of sexual orientation, I think the bigger issue is actually privacy, or lack thereof. We aren't just obsessed with trying to "out" the gays. We're obsessed with Kim and Reggie on vaycay; we're obsessed with reading about Brangelina's latest "break-up"; we're obsessed with building people up and then watching them tumble to the bottom. But for what? What does knowing the intimate details of someone who we don't even know bring to our lives? NOTHING! At best, its entertainment. If anything though, its really just a distraction from focusing on what is going on within our own lives. People in general need to stop using each other as a means to build themselves up by tearing others down. Focus on what makes you a happier and better person by changing who you are inside, not criticizing another for their lifestyle. And to all the haters out there trying to out people or talk smack about others for their own petty amusement, I just have one question for you...

"WHY YOU SO OBSESSED WITH ME??"

=)

<3 YA PEBZ!

As a gay person I think it's important for closeted celebs to come out & show there's nothing to be ashamed of. They don't have to make a big splash about it but a gay celeb who continually shows up in public w/ someone of the opposite sex is relaying the message that something is wrong. The idea is to be out and when we get a point where it truly doesn't matter. This isn't about a celeb's privacy, etc. It's about helping that everyday person who is struggling to accept themself. All gay people do have a duty to each other, like it or not.
