Makes me wanna Google!
Yesterday I tweeted “Too much game between the commercials.” I only watch the Super Bowl when my team (the Patriots) are playing. Since they weren’t I had no intention of even watching the game. I did cave and turned it on to watch the commercials. I missed a lot of them because I was too busy doing…well, I wasn’t really doing anything, I just wasn’t paying attention. Two commercials were my favorites.
I am a woman, and most of us are saps by nature, so Google sure knew what they were doing when they decided to air Parisian Love for their Super Bowl ad. I was on Twitter while watching the game, and there was an instant overwhelmingly positive response, especially from women. If you missed it, here it is.
Google actually has been very opposed to TV advertising, so a lot of people were surprised to hear that they were running an ad. The commercial has actually been on YouTube since November. Google CEO Eric Schmidt released this statement:
If you watched the Super Bowl this evening you’ll have seen a video from Google called “Parisian Love”. In fact you might have watched it before, because it’s been on YouTube for over three months. We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search. Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.
If you like it too, we hope you’ll watch the others. Enjoy.
The other ad that I didn’t see live, but heard a lot about and looked up online was a Doritos ad. I won’t tell you what happens in case you haven’t seen it, but here’s the commercial called House Rules.
Hilarious!!!
So which ads were YOUR favorite? I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment, and thanks so much for reading!
Just my humble opinion…Pebbles

I LOVE the Doritos “House Rules” commercial. I am currently studying abroad in Canada, so unfortunately I didn’t get to see the same commercials that aired in the States (by the way…Canada doesn’t give a hoot about advertising for anything other than the Olympics right now. Not a single funny commercial. Also shows how incredibly capitalist our U.S. society has become), but I found a site that has most of the U.S. commercials. Of the ones I’ve watched so far, this Doritos one is my favorite. Most of the other Doritos ones were good too, though
I also liked the Dwight Howard / Lebron James one for McDonalds.
I was disappointed with the T-pain Voice Box commercial, and can’t imagine it was too popular with anyone but the younger generations.
Overall I feel like the ads have been getting worse every year for at least 5 years now. The 90s and early 2000s were great, at least from what I remember.
